Kyaninga Lodge's common areas are comfortable and well designed, which is clearly influenced by traditional Alpine decor that meets African interiors through the use of glossy local woods. Steps are hewn from aged volcanic rock that lead down to the construction of Kyaninga’s swimming pool.

Uganda is best known for mountain gorilla trekking and chimpanzee tracking. At Kyaninga Lodge, expect a lot of animals, such as vervet and civet cats, bats, red-tailed and colobus monkeys, porcupines, and plenty of birds.

Crater Rim Walk

Taking the route around the top of the crater takes approximately an hour and a half to complete, with spectacular views of Lake Kyaninga, the Ruwenzori Mountains, and the rolling hills of Fort Portal. A guide is not necessary for the crater-rim walk but is available free of charge.

Forest Walk

The forest walk route inside the crater is a little tougher compared to the rim route, but it is worth it for the sights and sounds of the unspoiled virgin African forest teeming with wildlife species and exotic plant species. It is a must-go for nature lovers. Kyaninga Forest Walk offers bat caves, troupes of black and white colobus monkeys, bird species,red-tailed monkeys, and vervet monkeys.

Lake Kyaninga

The lake itself is the clearest of western Uganda’s crater lakes. Lake Kyaninga is two hundred and twenty meters deep. The water in this lake has a very high mineral content, which supports almost all plant life. Lake Kyaninga is bilharzia-free; therefore, it is among the few Ugandan lakes that are safe to swim in.

Kibale Forest National Park (1 hour)

Kibale Forest National Park is Africa’s prime destination for tracking chimpanzees and boasts the highest number of chimpanzees worldwide. Kibale Forest National Park is home to at least 60 mammal species, including 13 primate species, including the rare red colobus colobus, L’Hoest monkeys, blue monkeys, bush babies, olive baboons, and grey-chipped mangabeys. Kibale Forest protects over 300 species of birds, and six bird species are endemic to Kibale Forest National Park.

Semuliki National Park (1.5 hours)

Semuliki National Park is part of the vast Ituri Forest. This park features two of Uganda’s female and male hot springs, where tourists can view a jet of hot water several meters high and a large pool of oozing boiling water that easily boils eggs for lunch in 10 minutes!

Queen Elizabeth National Park (1.5 hours)

Take a safari to Uganda´s famous national park, which stretches over an area of nearly 2,000 sq km. With one of the highest biodiversity rankings worldwide, Queen Elizabeth protects an incredible 95 mammal species and more than 500 bird species.

Queen Elizabeth National Park offers a boat safari that is a must-do activity at the Kazinga Channel that links Lakes Edward and George. On the boat cruise, you will spot countless animals along the banks, such as hippos, elephants, antelopes, crocodiles, buffaloes, and countless bird species.

Rwenzori Mountains National Park (1.5 hours)

The Rwenzori Mountains are one of Africa’s great untapped gems. The second-highest mountain range in Africa offers a unique experience for adventure travelers and nature lovers. Equatorial rainforest transforms into alpine moorland, glaciers, and finally snow-covered wonderful peaks. The Rwenzori Mountains have many endangered species and a fascinating biodiversity.

The dry season takes place in December, January, and February, and then again starts from June to September. The dry season is regarded as the best time to tour Kibale Forest National Park because it is when all the park trekking trails are dry and passable, making chimpanzee tracking thrilling and easier to do.
