The Ishasha Community Uplift Group was founded by Wild Frontiers Uganda and the Ishasha community to aid the nearby agricultural communities that live on the outskirts of Queen Elizabeth National Park and struggle to grow their crops while fending off game incursions that use them as a convenient food source. Assistance is given with the marketing of their locally produced crafts at the Ishasha Wilderness Camp, with basic training for healthy living in rural areas, with saving plans and the administration of small loans, as well as with providing guidance for larger funding that is available for such communities.

A local homestead tour, such as Agartha's Taste of Uganda Trip, which offers a wonderful opportunity for you to experience how rural Ugandans go about their everyday lives, is another locally guided tour that we offer for guests. They are also conveniently located off the Bwindi-Ishasha Road, making it simple to incorporate these tours into most itineraries.

“Sundowners” and “Bush Breakfasts”

Sundowners can be organized in the late afternoon, offering a suitable viewing point along the ridge or besides the Ntungwe River that allows travelers to savor the vast vistas and atmosphere of the beautiful Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Bush breakfasts are always available at the camp for travelers when pre-arranged and weather allows. Bush breakfast allows travelers to have their own personal chef and dining set-up in the wilderness, which can also be combined with an early-morning game drive.

Community Tours and Visits

Participate in the Agartha’s Taste of Uganda Tour, which is situated in a small village near Queen Elizabeth National Park that is approximately 45 minutes’ drive from the Ishasha wilderness camp. Agartha is a warrior member of the local community group dedicated and tirelessly working to improve other people’s well-being.

Agartha is happy to share with you how the women of the Bakiga tribe prepare their favorite food, ranging from how the ingredients are grown and harvested to how travelers encounter how to shift, grind, cook, and how local women keep food warm for their husbands.

Chimpanzee tracking in Kyambura Gorge

Kyambura Gorge is situated just outside Queen Elzabeth National Park in the north-eastern boundary, which takes about 2 hours’ drive from the Ishasha wilderness camp. Kyambura Gorge protects a small community of habituated chimpanzees.

Kyambura Gorge chimpanzee trekking allows travelers to move in the forest in the company of a Wildlife Authority ranger. Please note that a chimpanzee trekking permit is a must and must be purchased prior to your travel date. We can assist you in booking chimpanzee trekking permits.

Cruise the Kazinga Channel

Queen Elizabeth National Park, Northern Region, “Mweya” can be toured before or after Ishasha Sector tree-climbing lion tracking or even combined into a full-day excursion. Boat cruises start at scheduled times within the day, and private trips are always available.

The Kazinga Chanel boat cruise offers a tranquil river encounter, with excellent chances of seeing elephants along the river bank, hippos in water, and endless bird species.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest gorilla trekking experience

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located a range of two hours’ drive from Queen Elizabeth National Park, offering mountain gorilla trekking safaris.

The best time to tour the Ishasha region of Queen Elizabeth National Park is in the dry months from December to February and from late June to September. This is regarded as the best time for unlimited game drives, as the roads are dry and the sky is clear.
