Rushaga sector located in the southern part of Bwindi and is among the four sectors of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in the Kisoro district. Rushaga Sector of Bwindi has the largest number of mountain gorilla families compared to other sectors with three or fewer gorilla families; thus, Rushaga Sector is one of the best regions in Bwindi for mountain gorilla trekking and mountain gorilla habituation.

Rushaga sector has a high number of habituated gorilla families compared to other sectors of Bwindi. The Uganda Wildlife Authority issues 40 mountain gorilla permits per day in this region as compared to other sectors; therefore, travelers have higher chances of getting these gorilla permits.

 

However, travelers are advised to book  early enough for  gorilla permits, at least three months prior to their travel dates of trekking and one may suggest a particular gorilla family they  would like to trek because  each gorilla family is in  different areas of Rushaga,

 

Rushaga Sector Mountain Gorilla Family is led by a silverback that guides all the gorilla movements in the group and activities of the day within each family.
